Our communities are increasingly beset by eruptions of deadly levels of aggression. One way of thinking about dealing with such violence is the use of brutal force. Another is to work at the level of organizations to bring awareness of developmental needs. We as analysts and therapists have an additional tool: working with one patient at a time to help them with their hatreds and self-regulation difficulties in the belief that eventually our efforts will produce a wider impact.
The specific topic being addressed is the work with the aggression in an adolescent boy with developmental issues. It is an opportunity to hear clinical material pertaining to an issue that often leads to an impasse in treatment.
There will be a 50-minute presentation of clinical material followed by audience participation.
The presenter is a fourth-year candidate in San Diego. Her supervising analyst will be on the podium to aid in the Q and A as necessary.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. Participants will identify and describe clinical manifestations of aggression in the transference both displaced and, in the relationship, play and treatment of an adolescent boy with inhibitions and developmental issues.
2. Participants will identify through clinical material the interconnection between social interaction and aggression in an adolescent boy and identify the way that social interaction and inhibitions may manifest in the transference.
Presenter: Susana Rodriguez, MS
Moderator: Christie Huddleston, MD
Discussant: Ronnie Shaw, PMH-CNS, BC
